Acetate Treat Box

Yesterday, I talked with my friend, Alexis.  Alexis is an incredibly talented stamper and paper crafter.  Luckily for me, she also loves to share her great ideas. So she tells me how she made these acetate treat boxes that were the same as 2-4-6-8 boxes.  Wow!  What a great idea!  I had to make a few and this is what I came up with.  Thanks, Alexis for the wonderful project!!

I will add the "how to" for this project in my December newsletter--they really are quite easy to make and aren't they cute?

Bloggers Challenge--2 cards

This week's challenge is to use the same stamp set twice--but use the images differently in each project.  I decided to grab a set I haven't used much, Double Line Doodle.  I think the flowers can easily pass for snowflakes--which really shows the versatility of SU! stamps.

Designer Series Paper--Altered Purses

If you read my blog regularly, you know that I have an upcoming craft show (Saturday, Dec. 8 at William Fremd HS in Palatine, IL).  I've been busy getting gift items made to sell.  Yesterday, I finished these little purses.  They are actually wedding favor holders that I found in the clearance section a while back at Michael's.  I added a couple of Avon's flavored lip balms (thanks to my Avon Rep, Michelle, for helping me pick those out).  I used a variety of Designer Series Paper, 5 Petal Punch, Spring Flower Bouquet Punch and ribbon and voila--a cute little gift item!  If I had 3 girls instead of 3 boys--I think I'd keep these purses for them!

Frosty--Color Combo Challenge

The Color Combo Challenge for today on Splitcoast is Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, and Basic Grey.  I really like these colors together and pulled out good ol' Frosty to make my card. 

The snowflake is from the On Board Trimmings.  This great chipboard kit is only available until November 30.  That's the last day to order my Trim the Tree kit as well--don't miss out!

Thanksgiving Holiday Special Winner!!

Satin Ribbon Ornament Tutorial

Glass ornaments that have rolled up Designer Series Paper are quite pretty, but I wanted to use my Purely Pomegranate Satin Ribbon.  I figured a way to get the ribbon rolled and for it to stay rolled--my trusty heat tool!  I'm really quite happy with this ornament--a little twist on an old favorite!  I hope you enjoy the tutorial!

Supplies:  Purely Pomegranate Satin Ribbon, Silver Elastic Cording, Romantic Red Glitter, Heat Tool, Tweezers from Crafter's Tool Kit, Glass Ornament (smaller size)

Cut varying lenghts of the Purely Pomegranate Satin Ribbon and roll the ribbon.  Grip with tweezers.  I used lengths from 6" to 10".  I also varied how tight I rolled the ribbon.  If you roll the ribbon too tight, the ribbon won't loosen as well once it's in the ornament.  I used 12 lengths of ribbon in my ornament.

Give the rolled ribbon a quick blast with your Heat Tool.  Think about how long it takes to curl hair with a curling iron--that's where I got the concept of heating the ribbon in the first place.  If you heat too long, the ribbon won't uncurl as well.

Add the heated ribbon to your ornament.  Give the ornament a shake after each ribbon to help loosen the ribbon.

Tie a piece of Purely Pomegranate Satin Ribbon to the metal piece.  To get a "snake tongue" end, fold your ribbon in half and cut on a slant toward the knot. 

Add Silver Elastic Cording and your ornament can be done.  But, I wanted some sparkle so I decided to add some Romantic Red Glitter.

The glitter doesn't show quite as well in the picture, but in real life it's sparkly and really looks nice.  The glitter will cling to the ribbon and to the sides of the ornament.
