Happy "we have a snow day" Friday!  Actually, being south of the city, we really are having an "ice day".  My boys are thrilled of course that they have one extra day added to their 2 week break!

Since it is Friday, we all know that means Blogger's Challenge!  This week's theme is non traditional Christmas colors.  My card is doing triple duty.  When I saw the Color Challenge on SCS, I decided those would be my non traditional colors.  Then I waited for the Sketch Challenge and put all three together!

 

Here's a close up of the sparkly trees.

 

The colors are Basic Gray, Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss and optional Not Quite Navy.  These colors are from the Urban Garden Designer Series Paper.  I think they are non traditional, right?

To make the sparkles on the trees, I inked up just the edges of the stamp with Whisper White and stamped over the Not Quite Navy.  I wasn't too worried about being exact.  Then I added a little Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder and heated.

My favorite part, though, are the snowflakes on the background.  Can you tell how I made them?  They are the little leaf from the stamp set, Lovely as a Tree.  I just stamped them making sure the end of the leaf met at one point.  And since I was eyeballing it and a few of my leaves were "off".  I added a little punched circle (from Double Circle Punch) to the middle.

Home for Christmas Photo Card

Here's my Christmas Card for this year.  I like to send a photo of the boys to family and friends that I don't see regularly, but I also like to stamp my cards.  This layout works perfectly!

 

I started with a 4" x 12" piece of Ruby Red card stock.  Then I score it at 3".  That makes the flap for my sentiment.  I keep my cards simple because I send out quite a few.  I used Kraft card stock and stamped the image with Basic Black.  Then I used Ruby Red ink and a Blender Pen to color just the bow.

I had the photo printed in Sepia.  I liked the Sepia with the Kraft and Ruby Red.  A layer of Basic Black and Riding Hood Red Taffeta finish the card.

Boy does it feel good to get these done!  I would like to thank my niece, Jeanette, for the great photo.  Jeanette is getting started in her own photography business and I think she did a wonderful job!

Big Shot Elf Bag

Here's a sneak peek of one of the bags for tonight's WOW! Class.  I can't take credit for the design as I saw it on SCS.  I changed a few things though.

"Homemade Fudge"

One of the items that I sell at craft shows is "homemade fudge".  Here's the photo of it.

 

I love watching peoples' faces as they read the poem and get to the end--there's always a chuckle.  I covered the Hershey Bar with Ski Slope Designer Series Paper.  My poem is backed onto Kiwi Kiss and then I added a Snowflake Die Cut.

Feel free to use the poem.  I don't know the name of the author--wish I could take credit, lol!

I am finishing up my Christmas Cards tonight.  It's a perfect night to--we are in a Winter Advisory with several inches of snow expected.  Of course, my boys are hoping for a "snow day" tomorrow--I don't think so!

Hugs and Kisses Spiral Pop Up Card

Yesterday I posted a New Year's card so today I'm moving on to February and Valentine's Day!  This is the technique card we are making today at my Stamp Camp.

 

Here's a look at the inside and the spiral pop up part.  I saw this technique on Splitcoast Stampers.

 

Since this is my technique card, club members get to make two if they attend Stamp Camp.  If they can't attend Stamp Camp, they still get the card and all members get a one page "how to" so they can recreate the card at any time.

Cheers to You--Happy New Year!

Most of you probably have your Christmas cards done and sent (maybe?) so it's time to start thinking ofthe New Year.  This is a card we are making at my Hoffman Estates Stamp Camp.

 

The "Happy New Year" is from All Holidays.  I used the Stamp-a-ma-Jig for the placement.  The champagne glasses are from Cheers to You.  I stamped them with Black Stazon and then used the Gold Encore ink (put a little on wax paper) and a Blender Pen.

Deer Friends Star Ornament

It's Friday which means Blogger's Challenge!  Today's challenge is any ornament or holiday decoration.  I chose to do an ornament.  First, a little history...my 13 year old son made these "Ninja Stars" to throw at targets.  I looked at it and thought that a couple of them made from pretty paper would make a cute ornament.  So here it is...

 

The other side of the ornament has the same little snowman.  Now in case you want to make some of these, here's a tutorial.  I used 6" x 3" DSP, but you could make it larger--just make sure the width is half the height.

You'll need 4 pieces of DSP (I used Frosty Days) cut to 6" x 3".  I'm showing how to make one star.  The end result is two stars put together.

Notice where my "open" side is.  It's important to keep that reference.  Each piece will be folded in the opposite direction.

Fold each piece in half and then open.  You need this fold for a reference for more folds.

 

Fold the top part of each so that the side matches up to the half way fold you just created.  Notice that each piece is folded in the opposite direction.

Now fold the bottom half up to the same crease mark.  Fold in the opposite direction of the first fold.  My pieces are not flat, but you can see the top of each is folded opposite of the bottom of each piece.

Take the one piece (that originally had the open side to the right) and flip it over.  You'll see that there is a "square" at each end (sorry I don't have a photo of that).  Fold the far corner of the square towards the middle.  You should NOT have a straight piece. See next photo too.

Repeat the above steps with your other piece.  This photo shows the shape of the completed piece a little better.

Now layer the two pieces as shown.  Be sure to put the side with the open folds (see blue piece) on the outside.  You need the open folds to tuck in corners.

Take one corner of the bottom piece (green) and tuck it into the open fold.  The corner that I'm pointing to is the "tucked" piece.  Use a bone folder to make crisp creases.

Now tuch the other corner of the same piece.

Now flip your piece over and you'll repeat the "tucking" steps with the other piece.  See the next 2 photos.

Tuck the first side.

  Tuck the other side.  Now your star is complete.  Repeat these steps to make another star.

You'll have 2 completed stars.  Use several Mini Glue Dots to adhere them together.  Then decorate as desired!

 

With the number of folds to create the stars, you really need to stick to lighter weight paper such as Stampin' Up!'s Designer Series Paper.  The larger you make your stars, the easier the folding will be as well.

Singing Snow Family!

After seeing several singing reindeer (I believe Jackie Topa is the original creator), I thought, "Hey, if Rudolph and gang can sing, so can Frosty and family!"

 

My snowmen are almost totally created from punches.  I used the different size Circle Punches to create their bodies.  Their noses are from the Small Star Punch, cut to get the triangle.  Their books are the Curly Label Punch that I stamped with "noel" from Many Merry Messages and the snowflake from Season of Friendship.  Their singing mouths started from one of the flowers from Trio Flowers.  Then I cut the flower to make an oval shape.  Their arms are the Season of Friendship tree cut out.

I hope they look like singing snowmen to you too (and not some kind of cyclops snowmen, lol!).  The littlest one cracks me up since his mouth is a little big compared to his head.  He's just really belting out the song! And it's surprising he can hold the book that's as big as he is!  LOL!
