As promised, I have a tutorial for Faux Wood to share with you. I really like the Faux Wood as a background for cards or scrapbooks. Let me know if you follow the tutorial and what you think of the technique!
Supplies:
- Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa and Chocolate Chip Classic Ink Pads
- "Dry Brush" Jumbo Wheel and Jumbo Wheel Handle
- Kraft Cardstock cut to desired size
- Wheel Guide
- Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker
Step 1: Run the Dry Brush Wheel over the Creamy Caramel Classic Pad to ink it up. Make sure you ink up entire wheel.
Step 2:
Run Dry Brush wheel over cardstock in the direction of desired wood grain. Make sure you start at different points on the cardstock. Re-ink wheel as needed.
Step 3:
Repeat Step 2 using Close to Cocoa and then Chocolate Chip Classic Ink. Again, make sure you start at different points with each ink color so that you get a good variation of color. Once you use all 3 colors, your cardstock should look similar to this.
Step 4:
Using the Wheel Guide and Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker, draw the width of your "planks" of wood. I like to start in the middle to get a balanced look. The width of your planks can be any size.
Step 5:
Again, using the Wheel Guide and Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker, draw the lengths of your planks. The length should vary to give a realistic look.
Step 6:
Now use the Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker to draw "nail heads". Draw one in each corner at the end of each plank. If you draw wider planks, you may want to draw 3 nail heads.
When you are done drawing all the components of the planks, your cardstock should look similar to this.
Step 7:
Now comes the really fun part--finish your project. Use other Stampin' Up! sets and inks to embellish and finish your Faux Wood! This card was inspired by a fellow demonstrator at the Holland Spring Seminar.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Make sure you add your email address to the Feed Blitz in the left column so that you are notified when I add other tutorials.
