It's been a while since I've been able to participate in some of my favorite challenges. But now that school is out for 2 weeks, I hope to play some more! Today's card uses the Mojo Monday sketch and the challenge on Our Creative Corner--"Let it Snow".
Plus, as promised, I have a tutorial to show you how I made the snowflake embossed background on this card, without an embossing folder.
Here's the finished card. I know the embossing is hard to see on this first photo so be sure to look at the second one too.
To make the embossed background, you need a Big Shot and Felt Flurries. I know these are retired from SU!, but if you have some left, they don't get ruined when you use them to emboss. If you don't have any Felt Flurries, you can make some with the Snowflakes #2 Sizzlits and the stiffer felt (don't know the exact name for that) or Fun Foam.
First I'll show you with the Felt Flurries.
Arrange the Felt Flurries on a Standard Cutting Pad (comes with your Big Shot). Make sure an area big enough for your piece of card stock is covered.
The sandwich you need to use is: Multipurpose Platform on Tab 1, a piece of cardstock (to use as a shim), Standard Cutting Pad, Felt Flurries, card stock for project, Texturz Silicone Rubber, Texturz Impressions Pad. It's a tight fit, but it will go through.
Your card stock will look like this.
If you have the Snowflakes #2 Sizzlits and stiffer felt or Fun Foam, this is what you do. First, make your snowflakes with the Big Shot and felt or foam. TIP: I think the felt would work better, but I didn't have any (hard to believe). When using the Fun Foam, use a shim to make the snowflakes and they pop out easier.
Here are my snowflakes made with Fun Foam. Use the same sandwich as you would with the Felt Flurries.
Here's the finished result. Again, I think stiffer felt would work better. This embossing isn't as crisp as the embossing with the Felt Flurries.
I hope this tutorial inspires you to look at your "stash" in a different light. Maybe you have something else that would work to emboss. I think thin wood pieces would work well too. Be creative!
